Each startup has different needs and this will result in different stories to tell in your case study. You'll also have different designs
to show case. Do group research and synthesis.
You can each come up with different concepts to test.
Each one of you can own a concept and take it to wireframe but you will have to come together at the end to validate 1 user experience. Then you can each do your own visual design on it and the client will choose the ones they like the most after the class is over. This is not a competition, it's an working collaborative experience.
I want you all to have real projects on your portfolio so when you interview, it won't be all student work.
Even though you're working in a group. Each one of you need to create your own case study for your portfolio.
You can share research, do your own concepts, validate 1 user experience and you can do your own visual design.
// CASE STUDY example
// CASE STUDY OUTLINE
Each student will take the validated wire-frame and do their own visual design and the clients can have some options at the end.
Each student will have a
different concepts that they will test as well as wire-frames to test. Then will come together and validate 1 user experience
in the wire-frame.
USER STORIES &
You will have the start
of written user-stories for each scenario of your application and you will have "design assets" ready for developers. You will also have style guides as well as a design systems created.
CLASS IS A
Not everyone's work will be the same outcome. Each client has different needs. It's okay to take your own initiatives and each team can decide on what is the best things to do for each client, Regardless of what I have laid out as far as the agendas goes. I'm not grading you on following the agenda, I'm grading you on your final case studies, how much effort did you put in and how much work did you achieve when working with our clients.
CLASS IS MOSTLY
YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE
FOR THE WORK.
This is NOT just wait until class
to do the work. You need to do the work outside of class. IF YOU DO NOT ACT NOTHING WILL GET DONE. Some of the classes are going to be studio time to review/do work, support you and we can practice too. Some of these studio session will have clients in them so they can learn the process and work with you all. Please, If you don't be a team player, you will be letting your class mates, myself and the client down. A couple clients will be remoting in, so be prepared to see and work with them in
a virtual way.
ARE HERE TO
You will learn some new methods but mostly I'm here to help guide you, identify next steps, get you unstuck, support you and not just teach you new things. This isn't really about grades, it's about experiences that you will face when you get out into the industry.
Do well, and you may get hired by one of these start-ups and that's better than any grade! I wish I had this when I was in school.
